Lithium batteries are widely used in the field of embedded systems because of their high energy density for its mass and volume. Lithium-ion (Li-ion) technology has to meet ever greater demands for autonomy, lifetime, safety or even miniaturization and is therefore the subject of much research in laboratories. A more advanced development phase is the production of lithium batteries in series by large brands.

Lithium is a pyrophoric product whose combustion leads to the emission of toxic fumes, it must therefore be handled in a lithium-ion glove box in a controlled argon atmosphere with an oxygen and moisture content of less than 1 ppm.
